Bone curettage refers to the removal of bone through that act of scraping it with a curette. When the bone is surgically shaved or smoothed during a bone curettage procedure, the bone matrix is activated and begins the regeneration process.
A rasp or bone file can be used to smooth out the acromial resection. Attention is paid to the under surface of the AC joint. A blunt, double-pronged (Czerny) retractor is extremely useful at this stage.
